Introduction

If you cherish and celebrate the Power of Words, then it is important to understand how words are transformed and given new life from one culture to another. Furthermore, as you embark on a journey to explore global markets -- either as an independent publisher or represented by your literary agent or publisher -- it is essential to engage a professional translator who can adequately convey your "voice".

In the "Working with/as a Professional Translator to Explore Global Markets" online course, the instructor, Dr Christine Yunn-Yu Sun, will utilise her 25 years of experience as a professional translator, as well as 10 years of experience as an independent publisher of digital and print books in English and Chinese languages, to explain the importance of establishing a coherent and courteous working relationship between the author, the translator, and the publisher.

Real examples and anecdotes from a wide range of cross-cultural publishing projects are used to illustrate the importance of working with professional translators in order to engage global markets. Participants will have ample opportunity to discuss issues such as market choices, communication and marketing strategies, how to measure success and sustainability, and editing vs censorship.
